Thinking should I move to Ubuntu® (pronounced oo-bun-too) Linux? The answer depends a lot on what you do with your computer and whether you need to upgrade your Operating System soon or not. If you are looking to upgrade your OS or computers then Ubuntu® Linux may be for you. If you are looking to speed things up you can likely move to Ubuntu® Linux on your existing hardware and see a big increase in performance allowing you to keep your existing hardware and see a substantial cost savings. This is especially true if you have older programs that will need to be replaced to run on the Windows 7 OS as many older Windows programs run under Wine on linux.

Advantages of Ubuntu® Linux

Ubuntu® Linux can be setup to have a very similar look and feel to Microsoft® Windows.

Ubuntu® Linux can be setup to dual boot on the same computer as Microsoft® Windows.

Most Microsoft® Windows programs will run under Wine on Ubuntu® Linux.

Ubuntu® Linux runs on older hardware much more efficiently than its Microsoft® counterpart.

Most of the commonly used office programs are already included with Ubuntu® Linux.

Ubuntu® Linux is available FREE and support is available at very reasonable cost from GSM International and others.

Ubuntu® Linux follows a regular 18 month release cycle and upgrades are also FREE.

Ubuntu® Linux is much less likely to be infected by Viruses, Worms, or Spyware.

Disadvantages of Ubuntu® Linux

There is a small learning curve to switch from Microsoft® Windows.

There are some Microsoft® Windows programs that will not run under Wine.

Some (very little) hardware is incompatible with Ubuntu® Linux.

Ubuntu® Linux is not a good choice for public computers.
